Top 5 / North America

Hawai’i’s capital and largest city has a lot to offer as the state’s main gateway, from its beautiful geography to its authentic Pacific culture.

Need some more reasons to visit Honolulu? Here are five.

It’s a Place Unlike Any Other

Honolulu is unique in that it’s home to 1 million people and also the most isolated on the planet. Nowhere else in the world is there a place so remote with so many people.

It’s an Outdoor Playground

With its dramatic geography of volcanoes and mountains, its powdery beaches, great swimming and ideal climate, Honolulu is one of the best destinations in the world for outdoor activities. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re into hiking, scuba diving, surfing or lounging in the sand.

Pleasant Neighborhoods

Honolulu’s neighborhoods, such as Kaka’ako and Ala Moana, offer authentic culinary experiences, from local beer and music to some of the best food in the state. Visit the Arts District, home to several galleries and museums, or Waikiki, home to hotels, shopping, nightlife and more.

Sense of Community

Honolulu takes pride in its local products, from small shops to Michelin-starred restaurants. Visit Maui Brewing in Oahu; Livestock Tavern and Lucky Belly in Chinatown; James Beard award-winning chef Michael Mina’s new THE STREET restaurant; and chef Ed Kenney’s Mahina & Sun’s for local flavors and culinary tradition.

Shopping, Nightlight and Entertainment

Honolulu is home to the newly reopened International Market Place, the ever-expanding Ala Moana — the world’s largest open-air shopping center — and the newly opened Ka Makana Ali’i. Catch a game at Aloha Stadium or a show at the Honolulu Symphony, the second-oldest U.S. symphony orchestra west of the Rockies. There are also several venues for live theater, including the Diamond Head Theatre.
