New York City’s skyline is comprised of stunning skyscrapers and iconic architecture. It can be easy to forget the city is also home to many historic buildings. On your next visit to the Big Apple, check out some of these historically significant buildings offering a glimpse into the city’s past.

Flatiron Building

Opened in 1902, the Flatiron Building was considered an architecturally groundbreaking skyscraper. Its triangular shape and 21 floors ushered in a new era in modern buildings.

 

 

Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead

The Lent-Riker-Smith Homestead is the oldest home in Queens and oldest private residence in the city. Not open to the public, a limited number of tours are available.

 

 

Morris-Jumel Mansion

Built in 1765, the mansion is the oldest home constructed in Manhattan. The building served as a headquarters for George Washington in 1776.

St. Paul’s Chapel

Part of the Parish of Trinity Church Wall Street, St. Paul’s Chapel is the oldest church in Manhattan. The chapel celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2016.

 

 

Wyckoff House Museum

One of the oldest buildings in Brooklyn, the Wyckoff House Museum was built in 1652. Once a home to a former indentured servant, the building now offers a glimpse into the life of a Dutch farmer.

Celebrate May at Memphis in May International Festival

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).

JW Marriott’s second property in Kenya recently opened: JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi stands as the tallest hotel in the country at 35 stories. Located in the Westlands commercial district, JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi boasts 315 guestrooms, several dining destinations, a Spa by JW, a swimming pool, a fitness center and eight event spaces. A sky bar and lounge, as well as 51 serviced apartments, will open later this year.
