Trends / Study Abroad

The Eko Tracks: African Ecology & Conservation program is a wonderful opportunity for students to get their hands dirty helping African wildlife while also earning a few credits toward a degree. Eko Tracks partnered with North Carolina State University to provide a thrilling ecotourism experience that lets you gain knowledge on African wildlife, desert ecology, park management and conservation skills right in the trenches of Namibia.

Eko Tracks offers three options for students — one during the summer, custom programs and short-term classes. Each one takes you into the heart of a wildlife sanctuary situated in the Namib Desert along the mountain landscape of Damaraland for a unique, beautiful experience.

Students learn about human-wildlife conflicts in the region, ecotourism programs and savanna and desert ecology, along with practical sampling techniques. It’s an in-depth crash course that’ll garner you tons of knowledge on sustainability while teaching you how to help save the world. If you’ve ever wanted to get up close and personal with elephants or fierce African cats, there’s no better way to do so than this.

The minimum GPA requirement for participants is only 2.8 and the areas of study range from Animal Sciences and Natural Resources to Zoology and Evolutionary Biology. Head over to the website for more information on the program and how you can sign up.
