Under $100 / North America

In Cambria, Calif., the Central Coast offers plenty of beautiful weather, culinary treats, scenic sites and historic attractions.

Start your day with breakfast at Centrally Grown, a healthy and light option that’s just as pretty as it is delicious. The venue includes edible gardens, art and sculptures, water features and ocean-view patios. Try the “Off the Grid” breakfast sandwich with bacon, fried egg, tomatoes, avocado and spinach on a croissant for $12, or the breakfast bowl with kale pesto, quinoa, tomatoes and egg for $10.

Spend your morning enjoying a tour of historic Hearst Castle, built nearly 30 years ago by William Randolph Hearst, the media mogul. The beautiful venue overlooks the ocean and sits atop the Santa Lucia Mountains. Entry fees start at $25.

Enjoy lunch in another historic setting, at Robin’s Restaurant, located in town and near several shopping options. The international cuisine incorporates local ingredients. The food and wine selection is extensive. Try the Singapore chicken sate, nicoise salad or lamb burritos. Regardless, lunch will only set you back about $20.

Afternoon hikes are in order. Try Meander Trail for wildflowers; wide-open spaces and ocean views; or, hike up Bluff Trail, a boardwalk situated above the coastal bluff, with ocean views known for the marine life you might spot while there, including whales, otters and seabirds.

Grab a bite of dinner at Black Cat Bistro, a local favorite with farm-to-table menu items and regional wines. The selection includes items like Paso Robles pork belly with gigantes beans and a date apple mustard glaze, and strozzapreti pasta with arugula, cauliflower and currants in a garlic cream. Dinner can be had for less than $35.
