The Italian city of Florence is a firm favorite with tourists and it’s not hard to see why. Read on to find out how you can see the city on a budget.
Ditta Artigianale is the best place in town for breakfast, with the coffee and pastries particularly noteworthy. Keep it simple and expect to spend around $7, or go for one of the larger breakfasts, such as French toast, for around $10. Suitably fortified, it’s time to visit the iconic Duomo, its crypt, Giotto’s Bell Tower, Brunelleschi’s Dome and the Baptistry. You can get a combined ticket for $12.
For lunch, grab a sandwich at La Prosciutteria for $7. That will leave you with enough change to treat yourself to a gelato while you wander around town. Make a visit to the rose gardens in the Oltrarno district if the weather is good or explore the Natural History Collections of the Università di Firenze for $8 if it’s raining.
Dinner is great at Trattoria La Mangiatoia, where you can get a glass of wine for just $1.70 while you eat one of the delicious pizzas. Go for a nightcap at La Terrazza Rooftop Bar for a cocktail in sophisticated surrounds ($10), or Le Volpi e L’Uva for an affordable selection of wines from around Italy ($3 per glass).
