Under $100 / Latin America

Let’s be quite clear, you will struggle to spend anywhere near $100 on three meals, drinks, a guided tour or even a massage in San Pedro La Laguna. You’ll likely have quite a bit left over to spend on souvenirs, pounds of coffee, etc.

Breakfast at Café Atitlan is a good start with fantastic coffee, reliable internet and both typical English, American or Guatemalan breakfast options in a relaxed atmosphere.

After breakfast, get on a boat and explore the lake. You can go around the entirety of the lake for about $7 and take a couple of hours doing it. Alternatively, pick a single village like San Marcos and enjoy the day before returning to San Pedro. Or a hike up San Pedro volcano is certainly worth the trip.

I strongly recommend the Buddha for lunch with its excellent Asian food offerings and phenomenal fish tacos. If there is any football or other sports on, you’ll have no trouble watching them and you may not leave as the place hops up at night with live music nearly every night and a late close.

About 40 yards from this popular lunch spot, Angie Stone offers premium massage therapy with a number of available treatment options.

Perhaps now is the time for a little nap before heading out to one of the best restaurants in all of Guatemala. Pequenos Pecados (“Little Sins”) is really your only choice for dinner. Make a reservation and don’t even bother with a menu. Your chef is Italian (actually from Italy) and runs this place with his lovely wife. Just tell him what you like and how many courses you’re after and simply sit back and wait to be amazed.

Zoola or the Buddha will finish your night with dancing and drinks with a lot of money left in your pocket.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips.
