Snohomish County, Washington

Under $100 / North America

A part of the Seattle metro, Snohomish County, Wash., proves you don’t have to go into Seattle to enjoy all the great aspects of Washington State. With access to Puget Sound, the Cascade Mountains and Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, this area boasts wonders for the nature-loving traveler.

Start your day with breakfast in Everett, at Sirens Market & Coffee House, a family-owned coffee spot that benefits the community by hosting pop-up shops and its suspended coffee initiative, which allows anyone to advance purchase a cup of coffee for someone else who needs it. The coffee menu includes hot and cold varieties, espressos, espresso shakes and nitrobrew. Breakfast includes sandwiches, paninis, wraps and your classic breakfast fare like bacon and eggs. Limited bakery items are available as well. Breakfast and a coffee can easily be had for less than $10.

Enjoy a morning hike, fueled by your Sirens Market caffeine fix, and take the Lunds Gulch and Meadowvale Beach Park trails. The hiking conditions are good all year-round and you can find lush Pacific Northwest forests and beaches along Puget Sound. Keep your eyes peeled for salmon and trout in the creeks, or anemones and other sea creatures on the beaches.

Head to the Future of Flight Aviation Center for the Boeing Tour. View 747, 777 and 787 Dreamliner aircraft on the assembly line, and learn all about Boeing over the 90-minute experience. Purchase your tickets in advance to reserve your spot ($25).

Get outside again and head to Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, one of the most-visited forests in the country. There are plenty of recreational activities to choose from, whether you want to hike, snowshoe, fish, raft, ski or wildlife watch.

End your day with a much-deserved drink. The county’s craft brew scene is impressive. Choose from a variety of brewers — Crucible Brewing, Scuttlebutt Brewing Company & Pub, Lost Canoe Brewing, Diamond Knot Brewpub, Sound to Summit or Angel’s Tap House Brewery.

Toiletries to Pack for Winter Travel

It may not seem obvious, but, depending on where you travel during the winter season, you may need to make a few amendments to your typical toiletries packing list. In light of cold, dry weather, here are a few items to remember to pack when heading out for a winter vacation.

Leave Troublesome Rideshare Worries Behind

We can see it now and remember when it happened to us: Watching as the black car icon loops around and around, seemingly endlessly, and our wait time on the rideshare app continually changes. Long wait times and confused drivers are just a few bothersome issues that can nag at rideshare users. Need a solution? Ditch rideshares altogether in favor of renting a car on your next trip.

Snowshoeing Mont-Tremblant

If you are traveling to a world-class ski resort, I am willing to bet snowshoeing is not the first activity you have in mind. When faced with the prospect of carving up a mountain on skis or trudging through the snow, most will choose skis.
