Rome Week 14

This weekend, I spent Saturday and Sunday checking off more sites on my Italy to-do list. But first, Saturday morning was dedicated to finding some American breakfast. As much as I love cappuccinos and croissants, I had been craving eggs and French toast. My friend and I found a small restaurant, owned by Americans, who served American breakfast and even filtered coffee. After filling up on syrup-covered French toast and breakfast burritos, we explored more of Rome.

First, we stopped by the Mouth of Truth to take touristy pictures, and then wandered over to the neighborhood of Monti. Monti is a hipster part of town, filled with vintage shops, bars and restaurants and even their own market with goods made by locals. It felt like a local hang out and I would like to go back before I leave.

On Sunday, we woke up early and took a bus to Siena, Italy — a quaint medieval town in Tuscany. I immediately noticed the abundance of brick used in buildings, adding to its old-time feel. The main piazza’s ground was made with brick and built on a slant toward the former city hall. People gathered and sat on the ground, which was my favorite part.

Aside from walking around the small brick alleys, we visited the beautiful Siena Cathedral. I loved the pastel colors used on the outside and the darker atmosphere of the inside with tall columns decorated by black stripes. Lastly, we climbed to the top of the Facciatone for a panoramic view of the city.

I love visiting small towns in Italy; each one has a unique atmosphere, layout and history.
