The TreePod: A Ready-to-Assemble Tree House

Childhood memories of tree houses inspire many parents to attempt to build one for their own offspring, and the TreePod offers the chance to do so without the need for advanced carpentry skills.

Tree houses are a private space for kids to hang out with their friends, or simply read and play by themselves within sight of the home. They offer a perfect compromise between freedom and safety, and the TreePod brings the idea to your home in a convenient, easy-to-assemble package.

Instead of hastily assembling a rickety wooden tree house that, depending on your carpentry skills, could end up being dangerous, the TreePod is a one-piece fabric tent supported by aluminium rings. After assembly, hang the TreePod from a branch and it’s ready for the kids to play. At 5 feet wide and 7.5 feet high it doesn’t offer a huge amount of space, but it is sure to be a novelty for younger children.

While it certainly looks to be a convenient solution, it is hard to argue the TreePod offers the same romanticism as a traditional tree house perched up in the branches. For starters, the makers of the TreePod claim it should not be hung any more than four feet above the ground, and at $325 the units are not cheap.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign the first TreePods are scheduled for delivery in April. The TreePod is available by itself or with an accompanying stand that means even those without trees can experience the joys of a tree house.
