Health & Wellness

Staying in shape while traveling is getting easier with the addition of fitness facilities and amenities at airports across the United States. With features like yoga rooms, walking paths and even state-of-the-art gyms, airports are offering plenty of opportunities for travelers to keep from being sedentary and instead get moving.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, San Francisco International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport help travelers find their Zen amid the hustle and bustle of traveling with yoga studios. Located near gate D40 in the hallway connecting Terminals B and D, the yoga studio at DFW is free to visit and doesn’t require you to bring your own mat as the studio is fully equipped. SFO offers two yoga rooms that don’t charge a fee, enabling visitors to practice free of charge in Terminal 3 near gate 69 and in Terminal 2 near boarding area D. O’Hare’s yoga room is a tranquil space on the mezzanine level of the Terminal 3 rotunda, providing a sustainable bamboo wood floor, floor-to-ceiling mirrors on one wall and exercise mats.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport partnered with the American Heart Association’s Start! Walking Program to provide travelers with an official 1.4-mile walking path in Terminal 1. Embark on the loop at the intersection of the C and D concourses and head down C concourse or through the Airport Mall, or hop on at any point along the path. If you have more time, extend your walk into the A, B, E or F concourses.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport offer convenient access to fitness centers in connected airport hotels. Located within walking distance to all domestic terminals via underground walkways, Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport allows visitors to buy a day pass for about $25 to take advantage of the athletic club’s facilities, including a steam room, sauna, lap pool with Jacuzzi and full-service locker rooms. With a private security entrance and access to the Edward H. McNamara/World Gateway Terminal, The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel helps travelers fly fit with the WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio, featuring steppers, stationary bikes, treadmills and strength-training equipment. Travelers can access the facility by purchasing a day pass and can even rent New Balance shoes and athletic wear.

Visit the Airport Gyms website to check out a comprehensive listing of airport gyms, workout clubs and fitness centers available in and around popular airports across the United States and Canada.
