Looking to embrace the Halloween spirit in Western fashion this year? We have curated a list of a few spooky happenings in Wyoming this season, from haunted hotels and ghost towns to former state prison experiences.
Wyoming Frontier Prison, Rawlins
The former penitentiary will host its annual Haunted Halloween Night Tours on Oct. 24, 30 and 31. Running every half-hour from 7 p.m. to midnight, tours lead visitors aged 12 and older through the historic prison, with plenty of screams and scares along the way.
Historic Occidental Hotel, Buffalo
Experience for yourself the decades of ghost stories that fill the hotel’s halls. Reports of unexplained sights and sounds linger through the property, some even including stories of a young girl named Emily who is rumored to occupy the upstairs quarters.
Buffalo Bill’s Irma Hotel, Cody
Developing a reputation for paranormal activity, this historic hotel and landmark lets travelers spend the night. Beware of reported occurrences like guests’ belongings mysteriously misplaced, water randomly turning on and other unusual happenings.
Kirwin, Near Meeteetse
This area is home to the remains of Kirwin’s mining boom; visitors can explore the surrounding areas of the remaining site on the mountains outside Meeteetse. Uncover what is left of the old mining town and discover the unfinished cabin site of Amelia Earhart and her husband before she disappeared in 1937.
