Pack, rush to the airport, catch your flight, grab a taxi, speed walk around the city to see as much as possible, rush to catch your flight home, unpack. Travel can begin and end in a flash, leaving very little time to relax and actually enjoy time in a new place. Before you know it, you’re walking back into your home with nothing but sunburn and less money.

Travel and vacations are meant to be savored at a slower speed. Sure, there is a lot you may want to see at a particular destination, but time away from you hectic life should be enjoyable and send you home refreshed. The concept of ‘slow travel’ is becoming more desirable as travelers aim to connect with their surroundings and de-stress. Spa retreats and mountain lodges are just a few examples of the increasingly popular trip ideas meant for relaxation and escape.

Slow travel falls into the category of wellness tourism, a new vein of the travel industry sought by people who look to travel to de-stress. Even taking part in a walking tour through a busy city allows time to stroll leisurely through the streets instead of trying to hustle your way through historic sites.

Companies like Nomadic Expeditions, Country Walkers and Segera Retreat offer such experiences that urge you to turn off your smartphone and get lost in the wonder that surrounds you.

More specifically, Kona Village has its very own Mai Tai Mile, where guests can find four unique and different takes on the Mai Tai. Each distinct drink is inspired by its setting and comes with its own story.
