Try as we might, no amount of planning can trump Mother Nature. The wonderful, outdoor activities you had planned are always subject to being rained out. But don’t let a few clouds ruin your vacation — try these alternatives for some rainy day fun.
First, if you booked an outdoor tour or sports package, such as a zip-line tour or whale watching tour, there may be a chance to reschedule if the weather does not cooperate. While companies have different policies, it’s worth checking into — you may get a refund or alternate date.
If it’s lightly raining, use your rainy day to explore the downtown area. Most cities have “cores” with a dense concentration of attractions (restaurants, museums, theatres, shopping centers). Pick centrally located attractions and spend your day exploring a micro-neighborhood. End the evening with a show at a local theater.
If the downpour is truly torrential, spend the day at a museum. Almost every city has a large museum that can provide entertainment for an entire afternoon. Try to find museums within walking or driving distance of each other — explore one in the morning and visit a second in the afternoon.
While rain disrupts, there is no reason that weather has to sap the fun from your vacation. Be flexible with your schedule and always remember to pack an umbrella.
