How to Choose the Right Tuxedo Style

How To's

Brides often make a big fuss about the dress when it comes time to plan a wedding, but another important but often overlooked aspect is finding the right tuxedo. There are many to choose from, and not just any will do.

Choose the Right Color

The bright orange and blue blazers in Dumb and Dumber might’ve been hilarious, but your bride-to-be probably won’t get as much of a kick out of one as you will. Stick to the basics and go with a nice black and white, or muted blue.

Get it Tailored

Walmart is no place to wedding shop. Go to a professional tuxedo retailer and have them tailor a suit just for you. It’ll cost you, but it’s better than looking like an awkward teenager in clothes that don’t fit in your wedding photos.

Tie or Bowtie?

Do you want to go with the traditional tie or try a snazzy bowtie? It’s 2015 and both options work well. In fact, we’re pretty partial to the bowtie these days. Just make sure the color goes with the rest of your suit.

Keep it Simple

There’s no need to dress up your tux with fancy designs that’ll make you stand out. Leave that for your bride and her wedding dress. Aim for something simple, yet sophisticated and unique. You can buck a trend or two — just don’t go overboard.

Get the Right Shoes

Your shoes are an important part of the ensemble. They should match the color of your tux and not include too much flair, else they take away from the design. Go for something standard. If there’s a place where it’s safe to cut a few corners to save money, it’s the shoes.
