Find Your Bike Easily with Pingbell

Cycling is an increasingly popular form of transport around the world, and as the number of bikes increases, it’s getting harder to find your two-wheeled steed in among the bike racks.

The problem is especially pronounced in countries such as the Netherlands, where incredibly high rates of bicycle use led to the construction of gargantuan bike parks at strategic points in major cities. Imagine the stress of arriving early and parking in an almost empty lot, only to return a few hours later to find your bike lost among hundreds of similar looking machines.

Herein lies the utility of Pingbell, the world’s first smart bicycle bell. Made by Amsterdam-based FROLIC studio, the innovative bell communicates with a companion app on your smartphone, recording the exact location of your bike. Simply follow the directions back to your bike, and if you still can’t see it, push the “ping” button to make the bell sound.

The beauty of the Pingbell is it retains a classic design, and uses simple technology to make for an easy user experience. If you’re coming home late at night and would rather not wake people up, the Pingbell also features a light to alert you to its presence.

Pingbell need not meet its Kickstarter campaign goal by Sept. 30, but alternate ways to raise the funds needed to produce the product are being investigated. Stay tuned.
