Nothing can ruin a camping trip more than accidentally inhaling a waft of bug spray in the middle of the woods while attempting to protect your skin from bites. In the constant struggle to defend oneself from ticks, bees and other creepy crawlers, using sprays, roll-ons and scented candles are not always the best, or most convenient, options. Thankfully, there is a way to put up a barrier against bugs without having to add extra bulk to your pack.
Travel clothing company ExOfficio has a line of shirts and hoodies under its BugsAway line. This category of clothing features fabric treated with InsectShield, an invisible and odor-free additive that doesn’t rub off on skin. The product repels a variety of bugs that transmit life-threatening diseases like ticks, ants, flies and mosquitoes. InsectShield remains on the fabric through up to 70 machine-wash cycles in cold water and without any bleaches or fabric softeners added.
The line of shirts is also sun-protective with a 30 SPF, and the mesh-lined interior ensures breathability and comfort.
The prices of the BugsAway shirts for both men and women range from $65–80 for a hoodie-style jacket or crew-neck shirt, to between $75–100 for a long-sleeved, button-up, collared shirt.
