Under $100: Whidbey Island

Washington State’s Whidbey Island has much to offer any type of traveler, from beguiling farms to easy hikes to stunning scenery.

Start your day at Deception Pass State Park, where the island’s northern tip connects to the mainland. The impressive Deception Pass Bridge soars above the impressive beaches and is worth walking across. Spend $5 on a day pass to explore the state park’s beaches and old growth forest trails.

Heading south, stop in Coupeville for a stroll through the charming town, where you can scope out shops and have lunch at Knead and Feed, a rustic café with sandwiches and soups for about $15.

Next, explore the area’s other parks, including Fort Ebey State Park, Ebey’s Landing and Double Bluff Park. Hike along the beaches and keep an eye out for whales and sea glass. If you visit a state park, you’ll need another $5 pass.

End the day in Langley, another charming town with art galleries and restaurants. Your remaining budget will serve you well at a number of restaurants, many of which focus on island-sourced vegetables, seafood and meat. Options like Prima Bistro and Portico are top-notch picks.
