New Orleans celebrates its tricentennial in 2018. The city marks the historic celebration with special events and projects taking place throughout the year to commemorate its history, culture and traditions.

Dozens of events take place during 2018, including special art gallery exhibitions, music festivals, cultural presentations and food festivals. Check the website for a comprehensive list.

Besides special celebrations, the city focuses on initiatives to move ahead. A variety of city-wide projects are in the works for 2018, including infrastructure upgrades and a full-scale renovation to the historic Gallier Hall.

The Tricentennial Volunteer Challenge invites residents and visitors to participate in 300,000 hours of community service across 300 different volunteer projects over the course of 2018. The challenge is expected to have an estimated $7.2 million impact on the city.

“With the Tricentennial, we now have the opportunity to celebrate the hard work of generations of New Orleanians who have made us one of the world’s most authentic and beloved cities and to remember the fullness, richness and diversity of our history as it should have always been remembered,” said Mitchell J. Landrieu, mayor, New Orleans.
