Travelers visiting Stockholm, Sweden, must stop by the unique store Svenskt Tenn. Svenskt Tenn was founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, who recruited Josef Frank to the company 10 years later. Together they created the elegant, bold-patterned interior design style that continues to be popular today.

In October 1924, Estrid opened Svenskt Tenn on Smålandsgatan in Stockholm with the inheritance she received from her father. Ericson and Frank took on the fashion and design world by creating unique colorful patterns for furniture, wall decor and more. By the early 1930s, Svenskt Tenn gained recognition as the most fashionable interior design store in Stockholm. Ericson’s sense of beauty and quality evolved with her wanderlust and shopping expeditions in North and South America, England, France and Italy.
The lifelong partnership between Estrid and Josef became one of Swedish design history’s most interesting pairings. Estrid ran the daily operations of the company until 1975, when at the age of 81, she sold the company to The Beijer Foundation.

Today, the store sits in a bigger space on Strandvägen and continues to honor Estrid Ericson’s original design and ideas. Guests can even catch a glimpse of her old workspace. Everything in her office is in pristine condition and exactly the way she left it.
Travelers can wander around the two-story store and see all the unique patterns, decor, jewelry and trinkets. Whether looking to upgrade your home decor or bring home a unique souvenir for a loved one, Svenskt Tenn has something for you.
If you see something you like but you can’t bring it home on the plane, shop online and get items delivered to your house.
