Ranked the third-safest city in the world for 2026 by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection’s SOTI research, Zürich continues to remain a top contender for solo travelers seeking adventure, tasty food, unbeatable views and historic sites. So, how can you best experience the city on your own?

Where to Eat

The city is an epicurean paradise, with top-notch cuisine serving everything from iconic street food to Michelin dining. It’s easy to enjoy a solo meal in Zürich without feeling out of place, as many restaurants here offer small and intimate settings that naturally suit solo diners. Alfresco dining is particularly popular for people watching. Places like Park Stadelhofen are outside and serve light bites and cocktails. And you’ll quickly find yourself immersed in dipping tasty food in cheese fondue at a number of restaurants offering tables for one.

Outdoor and Wellness Experiences

It’s no surprise Zürich teems with outdoor and wellness experiences. Clear your mind on a solitary hike up Uetliberg mountain, or take part in some private sunrise yoga at Seebad Enge on the waters of Lake Zurich. For a spa day, indulge in lush treatments at one of the city’s many luxury spas such as the iconic Dolder Grand Spa.

How to Get Around

The city is compact, making it easy to explore on foot. From wandering through alleyways in Old Town or strolling along the promenade to Zurichhorn park or browsing boutique storefronts on Bahnhofstrasse, you’ll quickly reach your daily step goal. But if you do wish to get around other than walking, the city boasts a world-class public transport system known for its punctuality. There are trams, buses and trains, so you can navigate the city with ease.
