Airbnb Unveils New Property Types, Tiers

You can find Airbnb in 81,000 cities, with 4.5 million accommodation choices. Travelers have used Airbnb more than 300 million times over the last 10 years. In preparation for the next decade, the brand unveiled a few new property types and tiers.

New property types (the existing property types are Entire Home, Private Room and Shared Space) are Vacation Home, Unique, B&B and Boutiques. The addition came after Airbnb found it was difficult for unique properties to stand out and for guests to find exactly what they’re looking for.

Airbnb also launched collections of homes to even further help travelers find the right fit. The collections include Airbnb for Family and Airbnb for Work. Collections expand later this year, too, with collections dedicated to social stays, weddings, honeymoons, group getaways and dinner parties.

The new tier of Airbnb Plus includes 2,000 homes in 13 cities above and beyond the rest, guaranteed to offer a beautiful atmosphere, an exceptional host and peace of mind. Each Airbnb Plus property was inspected and verified in-person against a checklist covering everything from design to cleanliness. The hosts of Airbnb Plus properties benefit from top placements and in-home services like photography and design consultation.

The other new tier is Beyond by Airbnb, which goes “beyond” the traditional Airbnb experience to provide custom-designed trips with stays at Airbnb’s finest properties.

Benefits for Superhosts also expand, with new benefits like more exposure, custom URLs, smart home products and more.

Plus, later in 2018, Airbnb plans to unleash a guest membership program called Superguest. It will launch to 10,000 guests in a trial during the summer, and roll out to everyone later in the year.
