Romance is in the air and Americans are ready to travel for Valentine’s Day.
According to a report from Allianz Partners USA, Valentine’s Day travel plans increased by 45 percent over 2022. The travel insurance provider reviewed more than 700,000 itineraries for round-trip flights departing U.S. airports Feb. 2–6, with a return Feb. 9–13. Seventy-one percent of itineraries are for domestic travel, with 29 percent making up international travel.
For those traveling domestically, warm-weather destinations are most popular, with Florida and Hawai’i cities holding the top five spots. Don’t count out snowy destinations: Salt Lake City, Utah, and Denver, Colorado, made the top 10. Beach destinations are most popular for international travel, with spots in Mexico, Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica and the Caribbean in the top 10. St. Thomas is the first U.S. Virgin Islands destination to make the list in the 10 years Allianz has tracked Valentine’s Day travel.
