For one of the most vibrant art scenes in America, one must head to Miami’s Wynwood Art District, bounded by North 36th Street, North 20th Street, I-95 and Northeast First Avenue.
Members of the local art community founded the neighborhood in 2003, bringing together emerging talent, established figures in the contemporary world and underground street artists, as well as masterpieces from throughout the history of art.
Today, there are more than 70 galleries and museums in the area, but the most exciting time to be there is during Art Wynwood, a five-day festival held every year since 2010. In 2016, the event drew 36,500 people, including prominent collectors, curators, artists and fans from all over the world. This year’s festival will honor Shepard Fairey, the street artist known as the founder of OBEY Clothing and creator of the Barack Obama Hope Poster.
“Over the last few years, Shepard Fairey has helped propel the ever-expanding street art movement,” said Nick Korniloff, founder, Art Miami. “His murals in Wynwood attract thousands and his iconic HOPE poster will stand the test of time as one of the most renowned campaign works in history. We are thrilled to present him with the Art Wynwood Tony Goldman Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award this year.”
Art Wynwood will also have a special showcase on Cuban art, holding a panel discussion with the Coral Gables Museum as well as a gallery by Luis Valenzuela, a Cuban-American visual artist and fashion designer.

Insta FeedAre You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?
Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
