Behere: Live Abroad Month by Month

Women who toyed with the idea of moving abroad but still harbor a bit of fear and hesitation in taking the final leap will find encouragement through Behere, a website and service that caters to women who long to live abroad, but only temporarily.

Behere is a program for women who crave a change of scenery but aren’t quite ready to leave their entire lives behind. The site prompts those interested to select from one of Behere’s 12 international destinations (such as Bali, Bangkok or Barcelona) and enter the dates during which they would consider relocating. Behere rents accommodations on a monthly basis, and the monthly fee includes the private apartment (with all utilities and WiFi included), a community workspace for those who continue to work remotely while abroad, female-driven events so women can meet like-minded women in the similar situations, access to local fitness centers and tailored city guides for exploring new surroundings during downtime.

In order to participate, members must pay a one-time membership fee of $990, which then allows for the option to live in as many cities as you want for one year. Monthly rates depend on the location but prices start at $1,400 per month, easily a comparable price for rent in some major U.S. cities. Behere even provides you with sample letters to employers in case you decide to take a sabbatical and need to convince your boss you want to work remotely for a brief period.

Once Behere participants have had their fill of overseas life, they can travel home knowing they can return to life just as they left it.
