Tips / Travel

Rome, New York and Chicago are obvious destinations for travelers seeking the perfect pie, but believe it or not, the world is home to other pizza-obsessed cities where beloved pies have become a part of the town´s subculture. Add the cities below to your list of pizza destinations and prepare your palate for takeoff.

New Haven, Conn.

The New Haven–style of pizza (or as they say in New Haven, a-beetz) features a thin, crisp crust and toppings such as olive oil, garlic, oregano and a sprinkling of Romano cheese. The New England town is also famous for its white clam pie.

Naples, Italy

The birthplace of pizza is still baking its original recipe with a soft, puffy crust and toppings like tomatoes and melted mozzarella. Their pies come out piping hot from wood-fire ovens that have been used for as long as pizza has existed.

Edmonton, Canada

Alberta typically does not spring to mind when thinking of the world´s best pizza destinations, but the capital city of Edmonton is home to old-school pizza parlors that specialize in unorthodox toppings like meatballs and shrimp. Edmonton´s most famous joints include Famosa, Rose Bowl and Tony´s Pizza Palace.

Los Angeles, Calif.

L.A. gets back to basics with its hand-made pizzas that resemble the traditional Neapolitan style. Local ingredients and absolute freshness reign supreme in a city that prides itself on originality mixed with trends.
