Everyone knows cigars are one of Cuba’s most famous exports, but which ones should you look to buy?
Perhaps the most famous brand is Cohiba, favored by the late Cuban ruler Fidel Castro. They’re not cheap, at around $60–70 per cigar, but you’ll be getting your hands on cigar royalty.
Next up is Montecristo, which sells the most of any cigar brand. The tobacco is an agreeable medium strength for new smokers. On the other hand, the high-strength Partagas are for experienced smokers only, as they have been known to make people ill. The same can be said of Bolivar cigars, which also carry a warning.
You might also see Punch cigars for sale, a brand originally registered by a German businessman in 1840. The brand is still running today. H Upmann is another top brand, reportedly favored by John F. Kennedy, and Robaina is another good option.
Check out Rome y Julieta for cigars that can be smoked straight out of the box with no aging, or the small Ramon Allones brand, largely under the radar since its foundation in 1837.
Whether you are a first-time smoker or a seasoned cigar head, there is plenty of choice in Cuba.
