Travel can be expensive, and it’s better not to travel with a lump sum of cash. As convenient as a card is, it can be costly, especially, when on a budget, with the foreign fees charged after every purchase or ATM withdrawal. We’ve compiled a list of cards that either have no foreign transaction fees or low interest to help you save.
The Chase Freedom Unlimited is a Visa card that charges a 3 percent foreign transaction fee and has no annual membership fees. You’ll also get $200 back when you spend more than $500 during your first three months after opening the account. There is 1.5 percent cash back on every purchase, and cash back does not expire as long as the account is active.
The Platinum Credit Card from Capital One will help you build your credit line while you travel or enjoy your daily life. There are no foreign transaction fees when you make a purchase, and you’ll not be charged if the card is lost or stolen.
The Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card is a Visa card with no annual or international transaction fees. The venture miles accrued can be used on flights and hotels, and the rewards never expire as long as the account is active.
The Citizens Bank Cash Back Plus World MasterCard charges no transaction fees. The Citizens Bank Visa Debit Card will charge a 3 percent transaction fee for every purchase or ATM use in a foreign country.
The Santander Bank Ultimate Cash Back Credit Card does not have any international transaction fees. The Sphere and Bravo credit cards charge 3 percent of the gross amount made in U.S. dollars. It is important to note Santander banks are available worldwide. Some ATMs in select locations may offer no transaction fees.
