Best Free Running Apps

For Trail Running

Check out AllTrails for biking, running, hiking and outdoor excursions. Use the versatile app for a variety of activities, but it is ideal for runners looking for off-road trails. Available for free on both iOS and Android, this app allows users the inside scoop on more than 50,000 trails. Explore, plan and record new trail runs, saving them in your app history for later. Look at maps and read expert tips and must-see site suggestions while planning or on the move. See more of your neighborhood or feel more confident and safe on a new trail.

For Accountability

Keep yourself and friends accountable with the free app, MyFitness Pal. Log daily meals and activity manually, share with friends or keep your profile private. Whether or not you stay diligent with documenting meals, the app is helpful to have in tandem with Map My Run. Up your endurance and track your activity while the apps work seamlessly together, automatically syncing exercise tracked on Map My Run into the current food diary on MyFitness Pal. Have a particular route that’s your new favorite? Save it in the app and revisit it again on your next run.

For a Cause

Make every run a good cause with Charity Miles. Earn money for the charity of your choice every time you run, walk, hike or bike with the free app. Charity miles tracks your distance and time and easily allows you to share your achievement with fellow runners. You can change your charity each time, or stick with one and see how much money you can raise with the support of the app’s sponsors.
