Westview Cemetery is not only the biggest in the American Southeast, it’s also a gorgeous Atlanta gem. You’ll find the cemetery tucked away in the Westview neighborhood, pressing up against Lionel Hampton Park. Westview Cemetery is relatively undiscovered by tourists and often overlooked for the historic Oakland Cemetery, known for walking tours and curated events.

Westview Cemetery opened its gates in 1884 and is the final resting place of Atlanta’s elites, including Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler. If you’ve visited historic, century-old cemeteries before, you’ll notice something striking about Westview Cemetery. The roughly 600-acre cemetery still has undeveloped acres that will continue serving the city. It’s also one of the largest non-profit cemeteries in the country.

Pay your respects at Westview Cemetery and take a stroll alongside stunning fountains and obelisks, and stop by the fascinating West View Abbey Mausoleum. The buildings are open to the public and contain tombs, paintings and mosaics. An abbey and chapel invite visitors to sit down and reflect upon the intricate stained-glass windows, architecture detailing and artwork.
