Based out of Tacoma, Wash., the new Black Anchor Workshop has already become well regarded for their superior craftsmanship and well-aging leather goods. Their products combine the area’s blue-collar ruggedness with the subtle culture of the northwest United States. While Black Anchor produces wallets, camera straps and other leather accessories, perhaps their most acclaimed items are their travel bags. Both the overnighter and the weekender, each exceptional in their own way, stand as examples of the professionalism and attention to detail of the designers.
The Black Anchor Workshop Overnighter ($200) is made using high-quality waxed canvas and English bridle leather that lasts for decades. Additionally, this piece features brass detailing and has a spacious interior made with cotton webbing of military grade — perfect for holding a traveler’s possessions without damaging the leather.
The Black Anchor Workshop Weekender ($350) is a larger alternative to its counterpart and thus able to hold more clothes and other belongings. This bag features a twill canvas available in both black and tan. While this product has a classic design, it includes a double zipper on its main compartment, affirming that functionality is not overlooked.
