If you’ve ever wanted to experience space without leaving the ground, a new VR offering in Seattle might just make your travel bucket list. The Infinite is the world’s largest, interactive, immersive space exploration experience, currently located at Tacoma Armory. The experience plans to take the experience on the road later this year.

The hour-long VR experience allows participants to explore a full-scale International Space Station replica, take a virtual reality journey while aboard the station, take a cinematic spacewalk and then feel the rush of returning back to Earth via a unique environment simulating weightlessness. The experience is based on the film Space Explorers: The ISS Experience, created in collaboration with the International Space Station and NASA.

The Infinite experience is unlike any other exhibition examining space. We took the approach to expansively underpin the visitor experience with exclusive content shot in virtual reality … aboard the ISS and did not center the exhibition around artifacts of space exploration. Using architectural design, free-roaming technology and commissioned artwork from Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda, we were inspired by humanitys global fascination with space, integrating a poetic point of view of the astronauts. It was vital for us to transport the public to the particularities of life in space and [allow them to] feel their presence on board and outside the ISS,” said Phoebe Greenberg, chief creative officer, The Infinite.

The Infinite is open to children ages 8 and up and open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 8 p.m. Tickets start at $15 for children and $48 for adults. The experience runs through Sept. 5.

Are You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
