During a recent trip to Chicago, due to a delayed flight and bad weather, I found myself with about six or so hours of free time at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. I decided to pay a visit to the United Club Lounge.
When I arrived to the lounge, I was undeniably rain-drenched and exhausted. Regardless of my bedraggled appearance, however, the lovely attendants at the front desk were perfectly welcoming, giving me instructions on how to access the lounge’s WiFi and where to find all of the offered amenities.
The lounge itself was satisfactory in size, but the décor and atmosphere was entirely more enjoyable than what you’d find in the actual airport. With comfortable seating, attractive lighting and modern furnishings, I won’t lie by saying I didn’t possibly drift off to sleep at some point during my visit.
The self-serve snacks and light lunch options offered included a simple and small selection of roasted vegetables, soup, salad, appetizers, coffee and other drinks. The bar also served up a selection of both complimentary and for-purchase beverages. Both myself and my husband really loved the potato soup and hummus that were offered, and I appreciated the fact the bartender knew how to make a good whiskey and Coke, with the correct proportions of each component.
While it’s probably not a feature you can find in every United lounge, one of my absolute favorite things was the floor-to-ceiling windows on one wall of the lounge that offered views of many of the arriving and departing planes. Maybe I’m turning into an av geek, but I love watching planes come and go at the airport.
Another fun feature? Seeing Trazee Travel’s sister publication, Global Traveler, available among the other reading material. I enjoyed flipping through the April issue, even though I’ve already seen it a million times.
I’ll be passing through O’Hare again in just a few weeks, and I’m definitely considering stopping by the United Club Lounge again.
