Trends / Adventure

Lying at the lowest point on Earth at 400 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea in Jordan attracts visitors from around the world. Its heavily salinted waters make it the second saltiest major body of water in the world and allow for no marine life — hence, the name.

Although there is no marine life, it still attracts plenty of life to its shores. Thousands of travelers visit each year to experience the therapeutic, religious and scenic wonders of this destination.

The density of the water makes it impossible for swimmers to sink, and many tourists come to experience the feeling of zero-gravity floating in its waters. The mineral-rich water and mud are also believed to have medicinal and therapeutic qualities, and many visitors spread the mud across their bodies and faces for this purpose.

The shores are lined with beautiful salt crystals and the waters sparkle in deep blues and emerald greens. Soaking and relaxing in the warm healing waters is equivalent to a day at the spa. In fact, many spas around the world have Dead Sea treatments and mud masks to try to re-create the experience.
