Dealing with Bugs in the Summer

Tips / Safety

Flies

Flies are one of the most annoying bugs of summer. They buzz around your house, land on your food and are hard to catch. The reason flies always hover around that freshly baked apple pie is because they love sugar. The best way to get rid of them is to use the weakness against them. Make a D.I.Y. fly funnel trap by twisting paper into a cone shape and placing it in a cup covered in honey on the bottom. The fly will flock to the honey and travel down the cone. It’ll get stuck to the honey and then you can get rid of it.

Mosquitos

Mosquitos hate citronella. On the internet, people rave that using citronella oil while hiking makes a world of difference. Most people are wary of the D.I.Y. or natural ingredient ideas, but, in this case, it works like a charm. Mosquitos also hate windy environments. Use any ceiling fans in your house to keep them away.

Roaches and Ants

No matter where in the world you live, roaches and ants are a common problem. They sneak into homes and make their presence known by pecking at crumbs on the floor. One of the most effective ways to prevent roaches and ants is to never leave food out. This is what attracts them in the first place. A more drastic approach is to caulk your windows and seal all other gaps around the house.
