Ever since the release of Christmas with the Kranks in 2004, the idea of just up and skipping Christmas, especially in favor of a luxurious vacation, has always been in the back of my mind.

Needless to say, skipping Christmas is more practical in thought than execution. If you haven’t purchased any Christmas gifts and are desperately looking for a way out, consider these options.

Cruising over Christmas is a great way to escape the holidays. The caveat with most cruises over Christmas is most of these itineraries include some kind of Christmas programming. As long as you’re not boycotting the entire spirit of the season, you should be okay.

If cruising isn’t really your style, consider flying to the Caribbean for the season. With the tropical weather, it will be easy to forget what season and holidays are happening at home.

From history in Cape Town to environmental and wildlife tours, there is something for everyone here, and it makes for interesting conversation when you return after the holidays.
