Does The Keto Diet Travel Well?

There are a lot of dieting lifestyles on the market right now. It seems we have moved away from crash diets and toward an overabundance of intensely specific diet redesigns. The Keto lifestyle is one of the more controversial. In case you are one of the few people who has not heard about the life-changing potential of the state of ketosis, here is a quick rundown.

The Keto diet is low in carbohydrates and high in fat with an emphasis on protein. The goal of this plan is for you to reach ketosis, which means you have trained your body to metabolize fat at a high rate. The positive side effects of the diet are weight loss and improved energy levels. The diet has been getting a lot of press lately for a few reasons. At least in the short term, many people are having success losing weight, but it is also fairly restrictive and high in fat.

If you are a follower of the diet and an avid traveler you can certainly adapt to your environment so long as you have total control of your food options. Most countries will allow you to choose protein and fat over carbs. The concern is more along the lines of how this diet might limit you culturally. Not experiencing pasta in Italy or eating rice noodles in Vietnam could leave you out in the cold. Of course, food is not the only lens through which to experience the world. It is, however, a way to bond with others and you may not want to alienate yourself by turning down beloved dishes when you are a guest in another culture.

Another drawback of the diet is its dependency on total adherence to the plan. This is in part due to the difficult adjustment the body has to go through to maintain ketosis, thus making cheat days virtually non-existent. The bottom line is the diet travels well enough, but it might wear out your welcome.
