This educational charity project consists of huge greenhouses containing plants from a variety of different ecosystems. The biomes are found in a huge crater, perching like spaceships against a green backdrop, which makes for an atmospheric visit. Voted the best attraction in the United Kingdom for various years in a row, the Eden Project draws visitors from far and wide to this beautiful corner of Cornwall.
You can explore the world’s largest greenhouse, which houses tropical plants from the rainforests, and experience the Mediterranean biome, with its olive groves and vines.
In addition to experiencing different environments, you can also learn about the plants and the products they produce. Tea, sugar and rubber are all everyday products, and the Eden Project explains where they come from.
It’s a popular day out for kids, but there is enough detail here to entertain adults too. Check the calendar to see if there are any special events coming up during your visit.
The Eden Project is found near St Austell, a 4.5-hour drive from London, and adult tickets start from $32 per person. It’s a great place to stop off on the drive down to the surfing beaches of Cornwall, and well worth a trip in its own right if you are interested in plants.
