Tips / Other

As the number of remote workers increases, many people are taking their life on the road and working from abroad. Known as digital nomads, these people worked out business can keep ticking just as well whether they are working from Chicago or Bangkok. The first requirement is a job you can do remotely, such as designing web pages, social media management or writing.

Then, start thinking about what you need to take your business abroad. A good laptop is the most important item, allowing you to produce work and stay in touch with clients from abroad.

Next up is a portable hard drive, where you can back up all of your important documents. Being on the road means the chances of losing or damaging your laptop are far greater than at home, so keeping things backed up is a must.

Depending on your job, you’ll need other pieces of kit, but you will definitely need a bag to keep it safe. Many luggage companies make bags with padded compartments for laptops and other equipment, and it’s a good idea to invest in a good one. After all, your electronics won’t last long in a tote bag on the beach.

Before you leave home you will want to make sure you have an unlocked smartphone with you. This will allow you to use SIM cards from local carriers in whatever country you find yourself in. If you don’t do it, your phone will be good for nothing, and WiFi or extortionate roaming charges will apply.
