Virginia Beach is known for beautiful beaches, fun-filled boardwalk and family-friendly activities. Whether you are an art enthusiast or love discovering new exhibits and creative spaces, Virginia Beach hosts an impressive array of venues and events that will surely inspire the artist in everyone.
Murals Galore, Tours and Sketching
The ViBe Creative District is home to a treasure trove of art galleries, murals, restaurants and artisan shops. In August, guests can watch the walls come alive during ViBe’s annual Mural Fest. Witness 10 national and local artists create at private properties throughout the district. If you can’t make it during Mural Fest, art lovers can still explore the murals any time of the year with a self-guided mural tour.
Museums
The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, also known as MOCA, is one of Virginia Beach’s most renowned art institutions and is gearing up for an exciting line-up for the summer that will run through spring 2022. Make sure to stop by the “Summer of Women” exhibit that highlights the original work of female artists from the local region.
Another event to look forward to is the 65th Annual Boardwalk Art Show that takes place Oct. 22–24. The outdoor festival normally hosts 300 artists who showcase their original work in a wide variety of mediums.
Don’t miss out on exploring the imaginative exhibits of Lost Planet, an immersive new museum of gallery spaces designed to engage visitors with wild designs and illusions. Find your way through the laser hall, escape the grip of a giant gorilla, jump into the foam pit or run through a bungee maze. This unique experience is a must during a trip to Virginia Beach.
Art in the Open Air
Check out the International Sand Sculpting Championship. The castles submitted to the competition are nothing like the sand castles you built as a kid. Sand artists from around the world carve intricate designs along the oceanfront that remain on display for 10 days.
