Diners go hand-in-hand with road trips, hangovers and classic Americana, but some are better than others. Which should you try out the next time you’re on the road?
The Fremont Diner, California
This diner offers comforting classics in a roadside stop that attracts diners from miles around. The reasonable menu includes everything from Rice Krispy treats and cracklins to fried-egg sandwiches and nachos. It’s a perfect pit stop when you’re driving through Sonoma.
Brent’s Drugs, Mississippi
With an adorable classic diner interior, this Jackson, Miss., favorite opened its doors in 1946. With a 70-year history of making shakes, sundaes and more at the soda fountain, you can’t miss a classic Coke float or a more updated offering such as the Nutella shake. You’ll also find an award-winning bar, The Apothecary, in the back.
Mickey’s Diner, Minnesota
This dining car has been featured in an array of television shows and movies. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, you’ll always be welcome at this historic landmark, which has been continually open for about 70 years. The menu is just as you’d expect — extensive and filled with all the greasy breakfast foods, sandwiches and fried foods you could want.
Goody Goody Diner, Missouri
The St. Louis staple is a favorite in the area and has been called one of the best breakfasts in the city. The menu is filled with breakfast classics in every combination and variety you could imagine. The prices are affordable and the portions are plenty.
