Entertainment

It might not be necessary, and with some models priced at more than a grand, they’re not exactly economical either, but they are pretty damn cool. If you’re an early adoptee of wearable technology, here are four great apps already available for the Apple Watch that will make your next adventure even better.

Alarm.com

As the smart home gets increasingly smarter, various tech companies are taking advantage of the growing network between our digital devices. Alarm is a subscription-based security service that allows you to connect locks, lights, thermostat and security to an Apple Watch app, enabling users to control their home remotely with just a network connection.

Starwood Preferred Guest

Checking into a Starwood Hotel has gotten even easier now, allowing people to check in and go straight to your room without stopping at the front desk. The SPG app automatically registers your reservation when you walk into the lobby and features keyless entry to unlock the door without reaching into your wallet. The app also lets you view your Starpoints balance, check reservation details and get directions to the hotel.

CityMapper

At the time of writing, the much-anticipated Google Maps app has not yet been released for the Apple Watch. Apple’s own Maps app is available, which packs in hotel reviews from TripAdvisor and Booking.com, but CityMapper is particularly great for public transportation. The app utilizes Google Maps data to provide train and bus schedules, step-by-step directions and will even tap your wrist when you’ve arrived at your station.

Trails

The Apple Watch’s high-tech innovations aren’t limited to an urban environment. The new Trails app is perfect for outdoorsman, allowing them to record their stats like altitude, ascent/descent, speed, pace and duration. Trails also features topographical maps that can be accessed offline.

If you’ve ever attempted to work on the go — not necessarily for a business trip, but just because your job offers the flexibility of remote working — you may have struggled with working from your hotel room. Your options are typically plugging your laptop in next to a tiny in-room table, if you’re lucky, or you’re stuck answering emails from your hotel bed — hardly conducive to productivity.
