Known for its thriving nightlife, Austin has more than 250 live music venues to choose from, catering to everyone from country music fans to hip-hop heads to ravers. Since there are way too many to choose from, we narrowed down four that are a guaranteed good time.
Hole In The Wall
If you’re looking for a local dive, Hole In The Wall is located right near the University of Texas campus. The music is usually from local bands, but the drinks are cheap and they have a huge beer collection.
The White Horse
This new venue is a modern take on the classic honky-tonk. The shows cover a variety of guitar music styles, from country to folk to conjunto, a unique Texas tradition popular in Austin. If you’re hungry be sure to try the barbecue chicken, and on Saturday afternoons you can take a look around the adjacent East Side Flea Market.
Elephant Room
For such a musically inclined town, Austin seems to be lacking in stages for jazz. Elephant Room has been serving the jazz scene since 1991, holding free shows every weekday and cover charges on the weekend. This underground venue has an intimate feel with low ceilings, brick walls and sparse lighting.
The Mohawk
The Mohawk was recently named Best Live Music Venue by the Austin Chronicle. Known for alternative rock, this venue is small but has a big sound, and is known to see up-and-coming bands before they get famous.
