Sometimes we travel to relax and explore, and then there are those times where we take to the air searching for a great place to cut loose. If you plan on living it up while you’re overseas, it’s okay to have a few drinks, but it’s important to do so responsibly.
Limit Your Intake When Alone
If you’re traveling alone, never have more than a drink or two when you’re out for the night. When drunk, you could easily become lost in a new locale or stumble across a sketchy character waiting to rob you. Keep your wits about you and cut yourself off before you go too far.
Party with Friends
Do not party with people you don’t know. After a day of exploring and spending time together sober you’re probably safe to have a few drinks at night, but it’s never a good idea to get sloppy with complete strangers. This is how people get killed.
Know the Laws
Liquor laws vary by country, so make sure it’s legal to imbibe before you crack open that bottle. Also check into the rules surrounding public intoxication, as an international criminal record will put a damper on your future travel plans.
Know Your Way Home
In a lot of countries, you can’t simply call an Uber to get back home after a night out. Research the area beforehand and if you’re heading to a club you can’t walk home from, make sure you have a ride back or someone sober with you who can get you home.
