Tips / Destination

If you’re looking for craft beer in Canada, Calgary is the place to go. The fourth-largest city in the country, Calgary offers more than 40 microbreweries, all of which incorporate Alberta-grown barley into brews. This, combined with the province’s climate, water and soil, make for a unique range of beers.

One of the best ways to experience these breweries for yourself is through the new Beers & Cheers Pass presented by Tourism Calgary. Available starting this month and through the end of June, the pass is free and includes a challenge with fun prizes.

The passport is accessible on your phone after downloading through text or email and compiles information about the local craft breweries all in one spot (and even offers you deals and discounts to redeem). As you visit breweries, check in through the passport and record your visit using your phone’s geo location services. If you visit three breweries, you can redeem a can koozie; if you visit 10 breweries, you’ll receive a set of two 16-ounce beer glasses. With every visit, you’ll be entered to win a grand prize of a beer weekend getaway to Calgary in 2023.

Don’t have space in your Calgary itinerary to visit all of these cool breweries? Favorite one-offs to visit include Tailgunner Brewery, a newer option with a military theme, and The Establishment Brewery, which recently won Canadian Brewery of the Year.
