Fans of the uber-successful book trilogy that spawned four motion pictures of epic proportions will soon be able to visit a theme park with rides and attractions that mimic their beloved Panem and its 12 districts. The idea for a Hunger Games theme park is in the works and would lure super fans from all over the world.
Prospective attendees will have to travel to either Atlanta, Ga., Macau, China, or Dubai, to visit renderings of the proposed theme parks. Set to open in 2016, the themed rides in Dubai will feature a simulated hovercraft that takes passengers through Panem after the apocalypse. A second ride will be a roller coaster that transports riders from District 12 to the Capitol, the same path that principle character Katniss takes on first trip to the Capitol.
The proposed park in Atlanta, which is not scheduled to open until 2019, will be in the location where most of the films took place, making it a veritable Graceland for Hunger Games fans. In Macau, an indoor ¨experience center¨ may open by 2018 and will house rides that not only center on the themes from The Hunger Games, but also other hit film franchises.
Following in the footsteps of Harry Potter World in Orlando, Fla., Lionsgate hopes to capitalize on the popularity of the books and films by allowing fans to take part in their own versions of the exciting yet tragic story.
