Reviews / Restaurant

Paella, calamari (fried squid) and pulpo (octopus) are just a few dishes that grace the menu of the District´s most popular Spanish restaurant, Jaleo. With locations in D.C., Virginia (Crystal City) and Maryland (Bethesda), celebrity chef José Andrés made the tri-state area a home away from home. His home, of course, would be the Basque country of Spain, which also serves as the inspiration for most of his dishes.

The spicy flavors and incredibly fresh seafood at this colorful culinary hot spot transport diners to Andrés’ dining room for an authentic Spanish meal with the chef. Spanish specialties like ensalada russa, jamón serrano, gazpacho, and pollo al ajillo represent the entirety of the Iberian Peninsula from the pintxos of the Basque country to the cooled soups of Andalusia.

Start your meal with a soothing glass of ice-cold sangria. From 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. during the week, sangria is served by the glass for $5 and by the pitcher for $20. These two hours of happiness also feature some of Spain´s most well-known and best-loved tapas dishes including patatas bravas, croquetas and bread with manchego cheese. Want a bit of everything? Tasting menus are available, ranging from $55 to $95 and include all of Andrés’ favorite dishes. Olé!
