With many airlines now charging for hold baggage, packing all of your gear into a carry-on has become a question of economics for a large number of travelers.

Whereas you used to be able to overpack for a week-long trip by stuffing too much gear into a large suitcase, the emphasis these days is on minimal packing to avoid luggage fees. In response, a new wave of carry-on bags are packing in as many features as possible to make the new realities of packing easier.

One such product is the Arcido Bag, which promises to keep your stuff safe, secure and well-organized. Encased in waterproof cotton canvas, the makers claim the bag will protect your luggage from the elements while keeping it in place.

Features such as the removable laptop compartment are impressive, keeping work items separate from clothes and allowing for easy access. Another thoughtful idea is to keep valuables close to your body, keeping them safe from theft and any impact the bag may suffer in transit.

You can use the Arcido as a backpack or a messenger bag, and it fits the overhead bins on major airlines. It looks like a sturdy product, but one slight misgiving is the top of the bag is wider than the bottom in backpack mode. This could mean the bag is top heavy, pulling on your shoulders and making for an uncomfortable experience. While this might not be so important on short trips to and from the airport, it could become a consideration if you need to wear your bag for longer periods of time.
