Voluntourism

The Alpine Mentors initiative aims to promote alpinism by training a new generation of alpinists under a mentor system with experienced practitioners.

Alpine Mentors is an organized non-profit group that looks to pair experienced climbers like Josh Wharton, Vince Anderson and Steve House with young protégés. The next generation of climbers is offered the chance to learn from those at the top of the game.

By taking small groups of youngsters with top professionals, Alpine Mentors will enable more inexperienced climbers to conquer peaks once thought to be beyond their reach. The organization is currently looking for applicants for its two-year mentorship program.

Climbers under the age of 30 will be given a training course by the best climbers in the world, culminating in a capstone adventure. The first Alpine Mentors program just finished with a month-long expedition to Brahmasar 4 in the Himalayas.

At present the expeditions are funded by members and donations from the climbing community. As anyone who has done even basic climbing will know, it is not a cheap sport to take up. Alpine Mentors aims to push the limits for promising climbers otherwise held back from reaching the next level by perceived skill levels or financial constraints.

If you are a proficient climber currently under the age of 30, get in touch with the organization to find out more about the specifics of a program that could catapult your climbing to the next level.
