The city of Philadelphia has long been an LGBT-friendly city. From large-scale festivals to quaint neighborhood spots, discover why Philadelphia is a top LGBT destination.

Referred to as the Gayborhood by locals, the city’s Washington Square West neighborhood is home to many LGBT-friendly bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Woody’s Bar and Tavern on Camac are among the Gayborhood’s most iconic bars. Rainbow street signs were added in 2007 to honor the diversity and culture of the Gayborhood-designated streets.

Also located in the Gayborhood, the William Way LGBT Community Center  serves the community with networking events, support services, cultural experiences and LGBT programming. The nearby Mazzoni Center is dedicated to the health and wellness needs of the LGBT community offering HIV and STI testing, legal assistance, support groups and other clinical care services. The center has served the Philadelphia region for more than 35 years.

Held in June to coincide with LGBT Pride Month, Philly Pride Presents hosts an annual Philly Pride Parade and Festival; 2016 marked the 28th year. The event attracts more than 25,000 people each year. The organization also hosts the popular Coming Out Day celebration, OutFest. Held in October on the Sunday before Columbus Day, the event has the feel of an old-fashioned block party. The free event, celebrating its 26th year in 2016, takes place in the Gayborhood. Local restaurants, businesses, community groups and entertainers participate. OutFest attracts about 40,000 people.
