The surfing town of Todos Santos is an extraordinary beachside oasis located in Baja. As one of Mexico’s growing havens for artists, it’s also steadily becoming a popular destination for LGBTQ+ travelers. The laid back atmosphere and eclectic style make it perfect for all types of sexual orientations.

January is the best time to visit as it marks the arrival of one of Todos Santos’ most popular arts festivals, essentially kick starting the year into gear. Mexican artists from around the country converge on the seaside town to showcase incredible sculptures, paintings, theater productions and other extraordinarily creative works. Later in the year, the city also hosts a wonderful film festival along with the Patron Saints Festival.

Todos Santos is also well known for its delicious restaurants, with more popping up by the week. Though you’ll find plenty of traditional cuisine, locals developed a taste for Mexicana Nuevo dishes. Between stuffing your stomach and exploring the endless array of art galleries, it’s nearly impossible to get bored here. If you do, you can simply head down to the beach to people watch or enjoy the surf.

While Mexico has something of a tricky relationship with gay rights at the moment, Todos Santos is refreshingly open to the community. Many of the hotels are gay-friendly, as are the bars. There’s yet to be any joints that cater specifically to the LGBTQ+ clientele, but we imagine one can’t be far away.

Todos Santos is a wonderful destination for LGBTQ+ travelers to spend a week soaking up the sun and discovering a bit of Mexico’s incredible artwork.
